July 21, 2005 Issue #1999 .............................................. .....IN THIS DIGEST..... ==== COMMENTS ================= --== The Status of our LED ==-- ~ Beth Earle ~ Peter D'Aprix ~ Gordon Bergen ~ Ed Clark ~ David Yancey ===== COMMENTS ================================= <Moderator Comment> LEDer, Here is all of the feedback I've received so far. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have. I've replied to each of you personally, but I still want to say THANK YOU for such supportive and candid feedback. Have a great weekend, Adam ------------------------ From: Beth Ann Earle Hi, Adam. I'm actually more interested in the SEO information than anything -- that last thread was really, really informational and useful for my company. But most of our clients are small- medium-size manufacturers in the b2b arena, so a lot of the general marketing and small-biz posts don't apply to what we do. However, I always read everything in each issue, just in case a smaller client brings something up. I guess my feedback is not to worry about what I think, since I probably don't fit the profile of the average LED'er. I'll be pretty much happy with whatever direction the LED takes. With thanks and sincere apprecation, Beth Earle -------- new post - same topic -------- From: Peter D'Aprix Dear Adam Speaking strictly for myself, I find the Digest an invaluable resource, always have. However there have been many threads over the years that I have been either not technically proficient enough to really understand or that have not yet applied to the work I do. And then a few months or even a year later I run up against a need to re-expose myself to the submissions to learn about what I missed because suddenly I am dealing with it. What would be enormously helpful, but time consuming I am sure, is an archive of past issues (not further back than 12 months or we are into history) of LED's that could be indexed or searchable by thread topic rather than issue. It takes forever to wade through issues, but if, for example, you were to archive submits on SEO all in one category, it would be marvelous. Imagine how useful it would be for new readers to be able to catch up on discussions on the best web authoring tools for instance. Read the back and forths for the rationale for hand coding vs Dreamweaver or GoLive or FrontPage. Hey, you could even publish it as an e-book. Since you are clearly up to your eyeballs in committments, perhaps there are one or two regular readers out there who could help make a dynamic data base back end to help store and retrieve this resource in exchange for a little plaque with name and contact information. Keep up the good work. Peter D'Aprix http://peterdaprix.com -------- new post - same topic -------- From: Gordon Bergen As a long-time "listener" (and now first-time "poster"), I have contributed exactly nothing to this list - other than add +1 to the subscriber list. I have gained some wisdom from the postings over the years from this newsletter, most of it being along the lines of "which way is the Internet going" and what is on the minds of people who are active on the net? I have learned tidbits on SEO, page design, browsers, email programs, Thailand, RSS, MLM, HTML and a host of other topics. I sincerely appreciate all the work that Adam and his father, John, have put in to the "I-" lists over so many years. I think they have both done superb jobs in guiding this newsletter. I agree with the poster who suggested that there's been a bit of a lull. But I think Adam got the hint. And I'm sure he'll soon kick it into full gear or pass it along to someone with the same passion he once had. Thanks, Adam, for performing a wonderful service for all of us. I hope you decide to continue as I think you have the skills, the passion, and the respect from all of us, that's required to handle this task. I sincerely wish you the best in your new marriage, and wish your and your wife all the best with your soon-to-be-born child. And, oh yeah, keep hitting the books! Regards, Gordon Bergen www.1andOnlyGifts.com -------- new post - same topic -------- From: Ed Clark Adam, I agree with Steven [Steve Birk, issue 1994]... I read every issue. I make comments when I think I can add to the overall picture of the topic. I have seen way to much of the same topic.... eg SEO pricing. There are so many topics to discuss... and a couple have been over done... but I read them so the LED-Digest must have something for me. We all know the work one like yourself puts forth to make it interesting for us... and I for one very much appreciate it. Congratulation on your marriage and new expected one... all the love and health to your family. Ed Clark -------- new post - same topic -------- From: David Yancey Hi Adam and all my LED buddies -- Have not posted in a bit; we're super-busy readying the launch of a new business aimed at savvy consumers. But don't worry! LEDers will be the first to know when we're ready for a serious mass tire-kick! Busy as I am, none the less, I track this list religiously. In discussing its relevance and usefulness, some of you newer folks may want to consider that with all the many demands on my time, I have found the few minutes spent with the LED to almost always be useful in our projects. This has been the case even when you guys are discussing topics not all that close to my own personal concerns and priorities. Further, seeing Dirk Johnson's informed, rational, courteous, and thorough post on Inbound Links in LED #1997, let me add that the LED is perhaps the only such list where: 1 A bona fide expert like Dirk will take the time to provide *free* assistance and education to all comers, AND 2 The moderator will risk the occasional complaints from small-minded or lazy readers to publish such a long entire post, AND 3 Where a significant number of truly established web marketing and technical leaders will monitor the discussion, and, very often, take precious time from their day to participate. Are there ways to improve the LED? Sure. Can Adam be a better moderator? Doubtless. But don't lose sight of the fact that, in the first decade history of the fastest-growing industry in human history, an industry with, already, millions of individual site operators, publishers, advertisers, affiliates, designers, and consultants, the LED has been the one steadfast, un-hyped, un-biased, free consultative resource that has no agenda except the then-prevailing concerns of its active, participating readers. This is, to my knowledge, the one list where webmasters, marketers, technicians, small business operators, affiliates, and consultants can all interact immediately, very often to the mutual benefit of thousands of readers, no matter their background or specialty. All ideas to increase LED's depth, range, frequency, and relevance should be considered; but none must be permitted that could turn the list into a platform for any one of these vital interest groups. Nor should the moderator be swayed by those who may want posts to be less detailed than Dirk's most recent contribution. These readers need to understand that in this industry to a degree perhaps never before seen, the devil -- and the profit potential -- is down there amongst those details. Thanks, Dirk; and thanks, too, Adam. Keep it up!
