Marketing & SEO Discussion List - LED Digest

Celebrating a Decade of Helping People Market Online

10th anniversary LED Digest

January of 2007 marks the 10th year the LED Digest has been published. Although the list has changed hands a couple of times during the last decade - from a newsletter for LinkExchange, to a discussion list for MSN bCentral, to its current state - the overarching quality and format has always remained unchanged. There's just something about the LED, I guess, that gives it real staying power. It's moderated and easily readable, useful and informing, and large and diverse. One of the exceptional qualities of the list is the diversity of its subscribers. Small businesses, agencies, firms and clients rub elbows together with high-powered industry veterans, .edu's, and mom and pop's.

It has been a long road. The Internet has changed so dramatically since the late 1990s that it's hard to even recognize sometimes. It has certainly become more commercial as its ability to create relationships is embraced by evolving businesses. Yet there are still remnants of the early days, of the idealism and promise that the Internet held while it was yet more about potential than business pragmatism. The LED certainly retains a flavor of that old-school idealism. As it grows, it's important to remember why it has been successful so far:

  • Open, unbiased community

  • High signal to noise ratio

  • Non-commercial delivery

  • Diverse subscriber base

  • Trusted resource

  • Wide range of topics discusssed

Keeping these strengths in mind will allow the list to grow and evolve into whatever the subscribers demand. As long as these basic principles are retained, the LED Digest can change and adapt without sacrificing its strengths.

Thanks for the run so far, and here's to another decade spent helping business people improve their bottom line, share and discover new ideas, and debate and learn from each other.

Best wishes,
Adam Audette
