I've done the Shoe Digest for them since 2001. Before that our company worked with Tony when he was building LinkExchange (which he sold to Microsoft in '98). So we go back a long time. Recently I flew down to Las Vegas to meet with Tony and had an amazing experience. Their offices are literally pulsating with positive, creative people and the energy is overwhelming. While we toured the building we saw a parade, sat in on quarterly earnings and awards meetings, had our Polaroid taken on a throne (we had to wear a crown) by their full-time life coach, and finally retired to the bar for karaoke and drinks. Here's a blog post about another experience on a tour at Zappos: http://www.voodooventures.com/2007/01/29/my-top-10-wows-about-zappos Check out the photos. Zappos has been built with the mantra that they're "a customer service company that happens to sell shoes." I'm interested in how Tony has built a thriving environment and a successful company that's on track to do over $1bil in sales in 2008. Here are his 10 core values: 1) Deliver WOW Through Service 2) Embrace and Drive Change 3) Create Fun and A Little Weirdness 4) Be Adventurous, Creative, and Open-Minded 5) Pursue Growth and Learning 6) Build Open and Honest Relationships With Communication 7) Build a Positive Team and Family Spirit 8) Do More With Less 9) Be Passionate and Determined 10) Be Humble Each of these core values is described and expanded upon in some detail by Tony in a document he gave me while at their offices. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. What core business values do you have? Adam Comment? ======== CONTINUING =============================== From: Virginia Lawrence Subject: Internet Marketing Conferences > I was wondering if there were any good yearly > conventions specifically for Internet Marketing? - Chris Edwards, LED Digest 2399 - http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/1802/55/ Yes, indeed, Chris! There are two great conferences. 1. WebmasterWorld PubCon Las Vegas Dec 4-7, 2007 at the Las Vegas Convention Center http://www.pubcon.com/ 2. Search Engine Strategies, SES Many conferences per year in various cities in US and around the world. San Jose in August is the classic SES. http://www.searchenginestrategies.com/ Both are excellent. Both have choices of sessions all day long, and I've attended and appreciated both. I prefer PubCon because the sessions commonly offer exactly what the SEO Specialist needs to move ahead on a new idea. In fact, last year Pubcon provided a CD with the sessions so that anyone could refresh their notes or catch up on missed sessions. SES is certainly good too. SES is much more expensive than PubCon and that attracts big business participants and big-business speakers. My clients and the people in the target market for my articles run small businesses. They are benefiting tremendously from PubCon attendance. There's also the Elite Retreat that's small, expensive, and reportedly very worthwhile: http://www.eliteretreat.info/ The next one will be held in Orlando this June. Adam ============ Sponsor Message =========== Will the real King please stand up? Sit down Content, you're no King. You're pictures, logos, imagery ... all kinds of stuff Google and the other SEs totally ignore. You, copy! Stand up! You're the Real King! You're words. You're the only page elements SE bots even look at. For the best search-engine-optimized website text in cyberspace, see the Copy Kings at www.GetWebContent.com/LED ============ Sponsor Message =========== -------- new post - new topic -------- From: Derek Andrews Subject: Blog indexing > If this is generally the case, then blogs are much better than > traditional web sites for promoting your product or yourself. - James Miller, LED Digest 2399 - http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/1802/55/ So why might this be? Most probably from the RSS feed from the blog, a quick and easy way to check for updates, so if speedy indexing of your website is important, then try adding a site feed. Another test you might like to do is to add a new page to your website then write a blog post linking to the new page and see how long they both take to get indexed. For most websites though, I wonder if fast indexing is that beneficial.
