Subject: Live Chat Software

My sister owns a couple of online Chinese herbs stores
http://www.1stchineseherbs.com/ +
http://www.discountnaturalherbs.com/ with just herself and a
part-time helper.

Because many of the names of the Chinese herbs are so complicated
(Chuan Xin Lian, Huang Qi - even the domestic ones are too - Cats
Claw, Milk Thistle Seed, Pau d' Arco) not only in spelling but in
what they might be able to do, I have suggested adding a "live chat"
feature to her site.

I reminded her that "A confused mind says no," and that by being
there to suggest which products might be helpful for cramps or
diarrhea (two of my favorite topics) she would increase sales.

So, can anyone suggest a competent, low-cost solution? thanks  :)

Subject: Google Rankings Dropped

Hello Fellow LEDrs,

Thanks for all your help over the years.  I have learned so much
from your posts.  I'm not an SEO guy.  I'm a humble web merchant who
has had to do most of his own website work and SEO due to budget
constraints.

I just have one quick question.  It's June 13th and I have just
noticed a radical drop in some of my Google rankings.  I think I
checked them like a week ago and everything was OK.  I haven't made
any significant changes to my site.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Is Google going through another
of it's famous algorithm shifts?

Thanks for your help,

Scotty West

Pieter,

Dynamic Drive http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ has several free Java
script options to do what you are asking.  Here is the link
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/ to the page with the
relevant scripts.

Please be aware that these scripts only deter, they do not prevent
somone who is determined from downloading images.

Good luck,

Subject: Qualified visitors

> How do other LED'ers define "qualified visitor"...?
        - Beth Earle, LED Digest 2430
        - http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/1835/55/

In my opinion a qualified visitor is one who performs an action.
Specifically the key action on the website. Either the contact us
action, or the buy now, or the subscribe to newsletter.

If the visitor performs an action then an accurate count can be
taken. A visitor who just spends a lot of time and reads a lot of
pages does not pay the rent. I might want a separate estimate of
these, as it may be an indicator that the site is not easy enough to
use.

        - Chuck Hiatt, LED Digest 2429
        - http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/1834/55/

I may be misunderstanding the issue, but I think the solution to
Chuck's problem is to download the product database and use a
program to dynamically create the site pages.  That way you can
configure pages to have real URLs, meta tags, titles, and whatever
else you need for SEs to index them.

Your problem is much the same as in the Affiliate world where
affiliates want to sell products from merchants, but need to be able
to display them on HTML pages that work for the SEs.  There are
services and programs out there that are used for this purpose.
Perhaps one of them can be used for you?

Here are some quick references that talk about data feeds:

        - Tom Schmitz, LED Digest 2430

The "inanchor:" query operator tells Google to show you Web
documents that have the link anchor text you specify pointing at
them.

Negating the "inanchor:" query operator tells Google to show you Web
documents that do NOT have the link anchor text you specify pointing
at them.

It works exactly the same way the "site:" query operator works, in
that respect.  If you construct a query with "site:URL/DOMAIN
keywords" you'll only see Web documents in the results that come
from the URL/DOMAIN.  If you negate the "site:" operator, you'll
only see Web documents that do NOT come from the URL/DOMAIN.

From: Peggy Deras
Subject: Lost rankings FOUND!

Hi All,

An update on my progress with all your great suggestions on getting
my ranking back for "kitchen designer".

I made suggested changes to my home page last week. Haven't had time
yet to optimize other pages, but I'm appearing at the bottom of page
one in my Google search today for "kitchen designer".

The results might be different in other areas because of geographic
targeting by Google, but I am DELIGHTED with this, because I think
it means others searching in my area would get similar results.

Thanks again everyone, for all your great suggestions. And Adam,
thanks for making my site a focus of study. I will get to the
changes on other pages ASAP.
