However, on this occasion, I'm motivated to post this question: Is anyone privy to what Google is up to with this little nugget? I'm referring to the new offering, "Google Analytics Data Sharing." From the Google Analytics Help Center: ----------------- "This data sharing policy enables us to improve two things Google holds in very high regard: user trust and user experience. Our goal is to provide customers with transparency, choice, and an improved product experience. When customers opt in to share their data with Google, it will be used to generally improve the products we provide you. However, it will not affect a customer's own account without an additional step of explicit approval for each affected product or service." ----------------- And, what's with the different options they allow? Since when does Google ask permission to use your data? Of course, you can always opt out of allowing this sharing of data; but to what end? I shutter to think what will happen if you choose to refuse this offer. ----------------- "...If you do not share your data, you will not be able to use benchmarking may not have access to specific ads-related features such as Conversion Optimizer." ----------------- Isn't this extortion? I'm really looking forward to reading responses to this one. Matt Moran MoranInteractive -------- new post - new topic -------- From: Dan Curtis Subject: Hosting & switching domain names Hello, I have written in with questions about domain names, etc before but I think I am finally ready to make a move. My site is currently hosted on my colleges server which they continue to do for free since I am an alumnus. The URL is: http://www.daemen.edu/pages/dcurtis/mattingly/dmatt23.html Yeah, quite a long URL. That is why I currently have http://www.hitman23.com and it redirects to the above page. Although I like the "free" part of my host, I have been unable to update my pages for quite a while because of access issues and the server goes down frequently. I want to be able to have access so that I can maintain my site and improved reliability. Here are my questions: 1. What are some recommendations for hosting? I am looking for good reliability, user-friendly interface, and affordable cost. 2. How do I make sure I do not drop out of the search engines. I am in the top 10 for Yahoo (used to be #3 but probably dropped down b/c of inability to udpate content and access issues). 3. Any other things I should look for when moving? I will be keeping the hitman23.com domain and hopefully will be able to redirect from the daemen.edu domain to the new one. Is this a good way to ensure that I don't lose any visitors? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Dan -------- new post - new topic -------- From: Dan Rosenfield Subject: Questions About Domain Parking Hello: I was very interested in Chris Nielsen's post, which included a comment about domain parking. I have several domains I have not had time to do much with and have read a little about domain parking. But, I am not sure I fully understand it. I would love to have Chris and others talk more about domain parking and the best places to park domains. Thanks, Dan Rosenfield http://www.college-scholarships.com ======== CONTINUING =============================== From: Dirk Johnson Subject: Links > If you had $1200 annually to spend on > directory subscriptions, AdWords which > directories would you choose? > Specifically, is Yahoo worth it? - Naomi Havard, LED 2605 - http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/2020/190/ Hi Naomi, Your service may not lend itself to a lot of search traffic. That is, the number of people searching for "fundraising payment processing" and similar terms is going to be rather limited. Certainly, whatever there is would be well-targeted traffic, and worth garnering, but it is still rather limited. As well, it does not really reach your core prospects who may not be using search to find this type of service. In some cases, chasing search traffic is a secondary marketing goal. Your prospects are directors at non-profits. You need to find out where they congregate, and participate with them. Find the associations that they belong to, collectively, etc. What publications do they read? What sites do they rely upon. What forums do they read? Find out who are the "people of influence" in their world, and get on their newsletter lists, read their blogs, use LinkedIn and Plaxo to make contacts, StumbleUpon, Digg, etc. You need to become a part of the community of non-profit directors and managers. Become a participant and reliable resource to that community. Best regards, Dirk Johnson www.domaindrivers.com -------- new post - same topic -------- From: Tom Anson Subject: Links Hi Naomi, As someone who has often wondered if this list would be better if I stayed more in the shadows (I share the feeling of many lurkers that I don't have that much of value to offer this group), I'd like to offer my suggestions about linking. I'm sure there are others who have more to say on this. I've had my website online for about eight years. For most of that time, my site has been nearly invisible for my main keyword phrase, Young Living Essential Oils. I gave up looking after about 20 pages of SERPs. But, this past year, I hired a company to manually submit my site to reviewed directories. The result has been amazing. I've gone from nowhere-to-be-found in Google for my main keyword phrase to hovering around 10th place in the listings. I have other keyword phrases that are in the top five. For one keyword phrase (raindrop technique video), I was in the first 4 places. Of course, position in the SERPs means little. But, my sales have picked up a LOT. I had my biggest day ever today. My head is still spinning. So, I'd say it was worth the investment. The same company that submitted my site to the directories will also submit articles to article directories and blogs. I'm in the process of getting those articles written (although this company will write the articles, as well), but having problems getting it done because I'm too busy processing orders. <grin> I might add here that the Yahoo! directory played no part in any of this. I don't know if a listing in Yahoo! would be worth it or not (I've heard arguments both ways); but, I've had impressive success (as I count success) without the listing. Hope this helps.
