Normally I would not debase the art by giving a general prediction, but since this process has been wantonly attacked in this digest (shame on you Adam!), I shall give a few tips to restore the Karmic balance. Leo websites - as the sun moves to Virgo, do a keyword check on your pages, be fussy, and make sure that the keyword-to-text ratio is exact. Jupiter will smile benignly on the results. Talking of planets, Saturn is moving out of the house of Aries, so now might be time to terminate that black-hat SEO campaign, especially as Mars in Orion says the authorities are taking an interest. Gemini, your mirrored site may be attracting the interest of an unwanted minor search engine bot, but this will cease when Mercury becomes ascendant. Taurus, remember July is a great month for stuffing your meta tags, whilst Sagittarius sites now need to be bold and move their adwords campaigns into the content network. Finally all should remember that Pluto, God of wealth is in the descendant, and work hard to maximize your search engine visibility. Mystic Maty www.knowyourcat.org -------- new post - new topic -------- From: Chris Nielsen Subject: Advertising model > For a bunch of reasons, we think going to a > free-content/advertising model has a lot of > potential... How do we go about trying to > determine how much revenue we'd be able to > generate? - Barrett Rossie, LED 2661 - http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/2076/190/ It's very hard to give you a good answer, because it depends on many factors like will you use network advertising, affiliate links, or try to get advertisers directly? Given that your site has a number of topics and some that can command nice bid prices, I would go with Google AdSense and perhaps also try to sell some ads on your site directly if you want to take the trouble with that. I can give you a rough idea of how much you may make from AdSense. I have two sites, a directory and an information site both with a lot of content on a lot of different topics. The directory had page impressions last month of 117,114 and generated $420. The information site had 114,976 impressions and generated $285. I think this is average for sites that don't have a specific topic and if we spent time working on the optimization the ad placements I think we could do much better. We have started using some of the Google CPA ads but have not yet seen much yet. Those do hold greater promise for increased revenue since the payout can be much larger that the max of $2 a click from regular AdSense that we have seen. We have a number of free content sites and they all do quite well, so I think you are on the right track with what you are thinking. I would suggest trying different ad networks to see which works best on your site, and also consider selling text link ads using a service like LinkWorth.com. On one of our sites we make more per month from link ads than we do from Google. Neither request is concrete, specific, or easy to answer. For the math of Google, Yahoo and MNS, no-one has the math but them. Optimization is done by experimentation, observation, modification - as is most marketing. If there is other math you want, I don't understand what it is. For the money, what money are you talking about? My clients are not going to open their books to you so you can believe I've produced results for them. Nor are they going to open their site analytics so you can see the results. If you mean results-based payment, that you want to see a large amount of money before paying anything --- well, you'll not get that in most marketing. I doubt you'll find many marketers, offline or online, willing to work on that basis, especially for very small contracts. In spite of our emails off-list, I still don't understand what you want to see, because your answers and postings are always very complex. Interesting... but complex! Please give a simple answer. No stories. No comparison with your constructing a search engine, or industries you have participated in. No reiteration of what others have said. Just what is it --- concretely, specifically and *very simply* --- that you want to see that you haven't seen yet?
