The trend sure seems to be more and more people these days are using a higher resolution, with 45% using 1024 x 768 and a low 7% using 800 x 600. These figures do seem to vary depending what site one looks at, although all seem to agree that 800 x 600 has declined and continues to decline. What are others doing and what do other LED's consider to be the optimal design parameters? Robert Joy ======== CONTINUING =============================== From: Michael Linehan Subject: Domain Scam > Just thought you might want to watch out > for this. Some people seem to have been > getting these messages for a while... It > appears they are scouring the US Trademark > files. - Eva Rosenberg, LED 2682 - http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/2097/190/ Similar scams by companies running in the US and in Canada. So such scams are not just launched from less controlled areas like China --- or Nigeria. Certainly, the North American ones are very well set up. Very legitimate looking. If one were in a hurry, or maybe not highly knowledgeable, it could be quite easy to be fooled into "renewing" one's domain with that company. I won't name them. I don't want to be sued. But you should know who you are registered with. (If you don't, look up your site at whois.domaintools.com. Don't respond to emails, phone calls or letters from anyone other than your actual registrar. And even then, of course, watch for someone pretending to be your registrar!!! Michael Linehan, Marketing Alchemy www.marketing-alchemy.com -------- new post - new topic -------- From: Tom Aman Subject: Backgrounds > I re-designed 64picks.com site back in > April and it now has a black background. > However, 12% of visitors have complained > that it is a strain on their eyes to go > back to sites that have a white background > (the majority of sites). - David Chapman, LED 2680 - http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/2095/190/ Would love to have checked the site out but, when I try to get to http://www.64picks.com, I get a redirect to http://www.indyevents.com/gateway/forbid.php and that, in turn, redirects to http://www.everyscript.de//bbs/data/id.txt? and that returns an HTTP error of 410 Gone with the message "The requested resource /bbs/data/id.txt is no longer available on this server and there is no forwarding address. Please remove all references to this resource." Why? Tom Aman -------- new post - same topic -------- From: David Strait Subject: Backgrounds Hi All! I've been a lurker on this list since 1997, this is my second post. The issue of background color vs type is not always 'black or white'. Some time ago, my favorite radio station (www.kste.com) got me to sign up as a user of their web site, but when I went there the pages were unusable to me on my Mac. They had a dark blue background with black type. I literally _could not_ complete the form to join. I revisited their site just now to review prior to this posting. NOW they've gone and created a new level of clutter. They seem to have abandoned the "sign up listeners" approach. I went to the www.64picks.com site and the background is just fine. For me, the essential point is legibility. The type size and font thickness are the key when using reverse type knocked out of a black background. It creates a dramatic effect which Mr. Chapman's audience surely enjoy. As I type this I'm looking at a page from Mac World mag, which has a nifty table rating the operating system's speed on tasks. Dark gray background with white type. (Tenie-tiny type = get my glasses). Seems like the best graphic designers sometimes use the reverse type effect. With aging eyes and dying cones.
