Marketing & SEO Discussion List - LED Digest

About the Moderator

If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that the LED Digest is not about me. While I act as the driving force behind the list, helping to foster an open and unbiased environment, my objective is to remain unobtrusive. My role is to gently guide discussions, moderate what is posted, edit the finished publication, and distribute it to the community. Adam and Lilly

Moderating always means interfering somehow: rejecting an inflammatory post, keeping the discussions on-topic and impersonal, and encouraging contributions when necessary. The challenge in all this is to not interfere too much. List moderators always walk a fine line between guiding discussions and impinging upon them. My goal, therefore, is to remain in the background as much as possible. Sometimes this can be a challenge, but I believe it's very worthwhile.

My Internet career began prior to 1995 when I joined the family company, Multimedia Marketing Group (MMG), submitting client sites by hand to the "WebStep Top 100" - a collection of search engines and directories. I went on to gather much of my business experience working as editor-in-chief of Adventive, a respected email list publisher that was sold in 2003. I also spent several years with Microsoft bCentral as editor and moderator of the Daily Digest, a professional discussion list that boasted over 150,000 subscribers in its heyday. (See the About section for a detailed history of discussion lists with a focus on the Daily Digest and its evolution into the LED.)

In addition to my LED work I'm currently managing a substantial community for Zappos.com, a cool Web retailer with great customer service. I also keep busy with my consulting work through AudetteMedia; I work with just a handful of clients at a time and offer advanced Internet marketing expertise. My methods are probably different than most marketers today, as I take a unified approach and use a wide assortment of techniques. All business is through referrals.

Some of the projects I have planned are getting the huge archives from the old Adventive lists online (remember these lists - i-Sales, i-Search, i-Design, i-Copywriting...?); SEOforALL.org, an open, community-focused project to help make SEO/M more accessible and encourage its assimiliation into the wider picture of Web development and usability; and several other confidential projects.

My biggest goal, though (and my passion) is working on this site. It'll probably never be finished, but I won't rest until all the informative content is published and organized online.

If you haven't noticed yet, publishing the LED and interacting with so many smart and creative people is something I love doing each and every day (pretty much...).

See you on the LED Digest!
