I also noticed that it wasn't listed in the Yahoo Directory, which is a great way to get started with getting bonafide links that will help you to have stronger link value in search engines such as Google. Google has not given your site any Page Rank yet, and building inbound links will help with this as well. Here is a link to some information on our website with suggestions on how to develop inbound links: http://www.webtrafficteam.com/linking-strategies.cfm That aside, your site also delivers several of its pages dynamically which can pose a challenge to search engines. To add to that, most of what shows up on those pages are graphics and the search engines are looking for content. You have to find a way to add relevant content to your site and I would strongly suggest building some static text pages and adding them to your site navigation to help satisfy the search engine spiders. Giving attention to those two areas, over time will product results for you. I hope that all makes sense, if not feel free to contact me. Best regards, Anthony Kirlew, Principal Web Traffic Team Member, SEO Pros http://www.webtrafficteam.com http://webtrafficteam.wordpress.com - blog -------- new post - same topic -------- From: Mary Johnson Subject: Improving rankings > I also need SEO service, can anyone suggest > a company that you have dealt with before that > provides excellent service at a good price. - Lilian Phuong Dang, LED 2211 For SEO, I recommend Cindy McMahen of www.nexusinteractive.com She has recently received some awards for her SEO work. As a web programmer, I have worked with her on several projects, implementing her SEO work on websites, and find her to be very practical, knowledgable, and effective. She also teaches an online SEO course. Mary Johnson, Software Engineer Web Site Helper www.websitehelper.com "Web It Up to the Next Level" -------- new post - same topic -------- From: Ivan Jimenez Subject: Improving Rankings Hello Lilian, I visited your site and liked what I saw in terms of product. You have enough product to promote but it doesn't take away from being a niche. Regarding the actual site, I'd like to see a re-design especially if you're planning on reaching a bigger market. I particularly like the design and layout of http://www.babystyle.com and more importantly, so does my wife (I've got the receipts to prove it). If you'd like, I can help steer you in the right direction with this as well as your SEO plan, just email me at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it As far as other SEO providers go, there are a lot out there like provide quality services. My recommendation is to speak with a few different people, collect quotes and base your decision equally on your impression of the person you spoke with, price (although this shouldn't vary much) and experience. Realistically, you need not go any further than LED Digest to find a great solution however you can also go to http://www.sempo.org to see their list of top SEO firms. Both are great places to start looking if you don't already have anyone in mind. Ivan Jimenez -------- new post - same topic -------- From: David Spahr Subject: Improving rankings Lilian, I would change the title tag to be a somewhat longer but succinct description like: Maternityactivewear.com - the No. 1 source for maternity active wear. meta name="description" content="Free shipping. Specializing in prenatal yoga wear, maternity active, fitness wear, maternity swimwear, trendy maternity clothing and more. Shop now" I would also change the meta description to something that begins with "maternity active wear" rather than "free shipping". MSN often uses meta description below the listing. Be sure it says exactly what you would want it to say there. I would put free shipping at the end. Something more like: "Maternity Active Wear. Specializing in prenatal yoga wear, fitness wear, maternity swimwear, trendy maternity clothing and more. Shop now. Free shipping." I would consider writing more about your business on the home page and put the contact info and the form either below that or on another page. Work some keywords into what you write in a legitimate way. You might consider creating some links to places that would be educational or otherwise helpful to your visitors. Prenatal heath sites, birthing sites, etc. You may find sites like this that would reciprocate the link. Don't get too hung up on reciprocation. Take what you can get that you would feel secure with. David Spahr * Stereoviews.Com * Antique-Photography.com * Stereoviews.Info * -------- new post - new topic -------- From: Detlev Johnson Subject: Linking > Anchor Text doesn't matter as much as you think > and will matter even less in the future. - Eric Ward, LED 2211 Hello everyone, Eric is well-known as the link expert with the most experience. To promote your website, do Link Building for the right reasons as Eric suggests. I can say, however, that Google and all the search engines take into account link text for rankings. Google "failure" and visit the cache for the US President's Bio. You will see a message that reads: These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: failure. That's for a top result. Link building was something that was originally done purely for the purposes of building traffic, not rankings. Google can be credited with making search more popular. If there is one negative impact Google had on the Web, it is that they added a devastating frenzy to Link Building. Link Analysis had a short shelf life as the main factor for rankings. The value of some links are less than worthless for search engine rankings, and destined for more crashes as Matt Cutts works to thwart their influence. Google had no choice but to revert their trend of calculating rankings towards classic information retrieval. It's just way too easy to game Link Analysis. Detlev Johnson, Administrator SearchReturn Digest: http://www.searchreturn.com/subscribe.shtml -------- new post - same topic -------- From: Brad Waller Subject: Linking - Anchor Text > Anchor Text doesn't matter as much as you think > and will matter even less in the future. - Eric Ward, LED 2211 OK, then. Search (Yahoo!, Google, MSN) for "internet classifieds" (without the quotes) and explain how Empire Online is a top result. I can. Now try searching for "epage" and explain why Empire Online is again on the page. Next, search for "click here" (again without quotes) and explain why any of the top results are there. I can find quite a few of these examples where the anchor text puts an irrelevant page in the top ten search results. Same goes for the "miserable failure" and "santorum" results that have been widely discussed in the media. I'm not saying that this is here to stay, but the engines still give a significant weight to the anchor text. Brad Waller Manage and Sell your own site advertising http://adjungle.com waller, adjungle.com -------- new post - new topic -------- From: David Yancey Subject: MySpace Hi Adam and LEDers -- Readers who are interested in marketing to teens or simply tracking the one-a-day trends among the 15-25ish should subscribe to www.ypulse.com -- voted in Marketing Sherpa as the numero uno marketing blog of last year. The publisher and principal author, Anastasia Goodstein, is very savvy and experienced in this audience segment -- her current day job is senior content producer for the Current cable channel. She and her editorial volunteers do a great job of covering MySpace and all the social communities that cater to the younger folk. You may also occasionally find a too-long post in Ypulse by the undersigned. ;) David Yancey http://www.tootoographic.com -- http://www.vivante.com -------- new post - new topic -------- From: Tom Aman Subject: Fixed width > Marvellous. But I wonder how many site visitors > simply accept their browser's default page size > as given, not realising they can alter it? - Valerie Beeby, LED 2211 That is a really good point, Valerie. We tend to *assume* (there's that word again) that everyone knows how to resize their browser. My wife only really got into really using a computer and the Internet a relatively short time ago (3 years). After she had been using her computer for a about 6 months, I was helping her research something one day and at one point suggested she max her browser window. "What do you mean?", she said, "You mean I can change the size of that window? Why didn't you tell me?". There followed a long discussion / explanation about resizing, opening multiple browsers, closing windows no longer needed, etc., etc. (all of the things many of us *assume* everyone knows about using their systems). Tom Aman Aman Software http://www.cyberspyder.com Home of CyberSpyder Link Test ==== BILLBOARD =================================== From: Bob Sheridan Subject: Dropped Rankings on Google Dear fellow LEDer's, In LED Digest 2196 I submitted a new post "Is Google Misbehaving? The Failure Search..." http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/406/55/ My company website has enjoyed being ranked in the first page on Google for the search word "restaurant software" for several years (recently was number 5). During that time I have used many ideas learned from LED Digest contributors. On 7/17/2006 restaurantplus.com disappeared from Google's top pages (it's buried somewhere way down the list). What may have happened is that I changed my home page to fit on one screen (13k), which shows up in #5 for search words "restaurant systems". Why would it disappear suddenly for search words "restaurant software" when it has been #5 for so long? An example of a very similar website with 14k size in "restaurant software" is www.tracrite.net. Google Links:Tracrite=633, Links:RestaurantPlus=327 Google Search:Tracrite=717, Search:RestaurantPlus=4,180 Can one of the SEO experts please explain: was my website ranking trashed by Google for the search words Restaurant Software because my revised home page had less "content" than it did before 7/17/2006 (if so, why is it #5 for Restaurant Systems). What are the main differences between Restaurantplus.com (look under "restaurant systems" to see my original 13k webpage) and tracrite.net 14k webpage. The main difference I see is that there are more backlinks to tracrite. Is there a way to enter selected key words and see "where" a particular website ranks on Google? I am unable to locate my website www.restaurantplus.com using the search "Restaurant Software". Thanks Google ; - (( I have changed my website's home page back to its original (larger) size, which has lots of content. I will wait to see if it regains its high ranking for Restaurant Software the next time it is Googled. Bob Sheridan www.restaurantplus.com
